FIBROMYALGIA
Fibromyalgia, also known as fibrositis, is a condition of debilitating pain distributed in several areas of the body. A combination of techniques have been effective in reducing pain for fibromyalgia patients.
Watrous PT uses The Trager Approach to calm and down-regulate the hypertone that fibromyalgia patients often have. Patients are provided with special exercises to recreate the free and easy movement they experience on the treatment table. These exercises are repeated to establish new patterns of moving. Similarly, Craniosacral therapy helps mobilize the spine and down-regulate the nervous system.
Strain Counterstrain helps to reduce tenderness of painful muscle areas. Exercise and core strengthening are
frequently part of these patients' physical therapy program.
As always, each patient is evaluated and given treatment appropriate to individual needs.
